An Iron-Booster Smoothie!

Iron is a micro-mineral that is crucial to our health, especially for women.  But sometimes our stores can run low because we are not getting enough for optimal health. While supplements are available that can help fill the gap, food is always the preferred source. This is where this smoothie comes in. This is a simple smoothie with some pointed ingredients that can help you gain that iron boost if you do not have ready access to other iron-rich foods/supplements Try it nuh!

  • 1 cup spinach.
  • 1 ripe banana.
  • 1 small cucumber.
  • ½ cup raw oats.
  • 2-3 dates, for additional sweetness (optional).
  • 2 Tbsp collagen powder (optional).
  • 1 cup water.

  • Add all the ingredients to a blender.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Serve and Enjoy!

You can switch up the fruits with the spinach. But ensure that it is a vitamin-C-rich fruit or vegetable.  Vitamin C food helps with the proper absorption of iron.  Also, you can peel and remove the seeds from the cucumber to help remove some of the lectin contents. Lectin interferes with the absorption of nutrients.

Ingredient Spotlight!

~ Collagen Powder~

Collagen powder is a supplement that is used to boost one’s collagen level.  Collagen which is naturally produced in the body is one of the most abundant proteins that can be found in the human body.  It helps with the structure of the body and skin etc. However, as we age, our level of collagen decreases.

Research suggests that collagen may be able to help with joint pain, skin health, bone loss and muscle mass among others.  You can add collagen powder to smoothies, teas, coffee etc.

To good health!
