Soursop Punch – The Creamy Treat – Say ‘Hi’ to Nerve Health!

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Soursop was never on my list of healthy juices as a child. In fact, every time my mother would prepare it (mostly on Sundays), I would just gulp it down like a disliked dose of medicine.  However, having grown and realized the plethora of health benefits of this prickly-like fruit, it has become a staple of mine.  Anytime I am able to get one, it’s like a well-deserved treat and a half.  Here is a very simple way of enjoying it as a punch. Try it nuh!

INGREDIENTS

  • A soursop.
  • 1 ½ cups of Milk (your preferred choice).
  • A dash of salt.
  • ½ tsp vanilla.
  • ¼ tsp. Nutmeg.
  • Preferred Sweetener (optional/to taste).

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Peel soursop and remove seeds.
  • Remove and discard the thick stalk that runs down the middle of the fruit.
  • Add the thick pulp pieces to a blender.
  • Add:
    • Milk (I use Almond or Coconut Milk).
    • Vanilla
    • Nutmeg
    • Salt
  • Blend all ingredients until thick and smooth.
  • Serve and Enjoy!
  • Chill it, for a more refreshing treat.
Notes:

Soursop can be enjoyed without milk.  As such, just remove the seeds, add water, and blend. Then sweetened with your choice of sweetener, a pinch of salt, or just add lime with your choice of a sweetener and enjoy.  For this recipe, I did not use any sugar as the almond milk I used was the sweetened version. It was good!

Ingredient Spotlight!

~ Soursop~

Soursop or more scientifically, Annona muricata, is a fruit that is called by many different names, guanabana, sirsak, and even graviola in some parts of the world. However, in Jamaica, it is just ‘soursop.’

Soursop is said to be chock full of many vitamins and minerals and has been touted to be very beneficial to one’s overall health.  Some of the nutrients of soursop include Vitamin C, B3 (niacin), B1(thiamin), folate, fiber, calcium, potassium, and zinc, just to name a few.

In addition to its purported nerve health benefits, it is also said to be able to help with digestion, inflammation, and blood sugar levels as well as boost the immune system.

To good health!
