Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta!

Pasta is one of those foods kind that can be added to almost anything.  They are easy to cook and prepare.  Add shrimp to the mix, and you can take your pasta to the next level without leaving your home or getting out of line with your budget.  If you have shrimp, then you can make this dish. Plus, the garlic makes it oh-so scrumptious, you are going to want to make it again and again.  Try it nuh!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ¼ oz shrimp (600 grams) – small to medium-sized.
  • 1 tsp black pepper.
  • 5 oz spaghetti.
  • 6 oz butter (more if needed).
  • 1 tbsp/ 4 cloves of garlic (finely chopped).
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice.
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil.
  • 1 tbsp parsley (flaked or fresh).
  • 5 oz pasta
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste).
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes or crushed red pepper.
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional).
  • 4 Tbsp water (or more), to help with the cooking of the shrimp.

INSTRUCTIONS

    • Shrimp
      • Wash, and dry and add to a bowl
      • Add salt and black pepper
      • Set aside
    • Spaghetti
      • Cook according to package instructions. Add a little oil to prevent clumping.
      • Drain spaghetti and set aside.
    • Putting it all together
      • To frying pan set on medium heat
      • Add oil
      • Add butter
      • Combine both ingredients.
      • Add garlic (finely chopped).
      • Add chilli flakes/crushed pepper.
      • Add shrimp
      • Combine all ingredients and let shrimp.
      • Cook until soft (about 7-10 minutes).
      • Sprinkle lemon juice.
      • Add more butter (if needed).
      • Add parsley
      • Add cooked spaghetti
      • Ensure all the ingredients are combined.
      • Serve and Enjoy!
 
Notes:

You can add the cooked shrimp to the pasta on a plate instead of combining it with the shrimp. Both methods have been used, it just depends on what you prefer.  You may need to add water to help with the cooking of the shrimp.  If you have white wine, then that would be even great, as the wine can be substituted for the water. However, I did not have to use water, just added a bit more butter as the shrimp were small and precooked.

Please note that the shrimp may take shorter or longer to cook depending on the type. Larger shrimp may take a bit longer.  For this recipe, I used small-medium-sized shrimp that were pre-cooked.

Shrimps are part of the marine life and are very nutritious. One of the main nutrients in shrimp is the carotenoid – astaxanthin which is great for overall health, especially eye health.

Shrimps are also a great source of several vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B-12, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and calcium among others.  It reportedly is excellent for heart health, diabetes, etc.
