Over the past few months, I’ve been experimenting with creative ways to enjoy cocoa and coffee beyond the traditional hot cup. While a simple cocoa drink is naturally rich, comforting, and satisfying, adding chia seeds transforms it into a nourishing, fiber-rich beverage that supports energy, satiety, and overall wellness.
This cold cocoa and chia seed drink is incredibly easy to make, tastes divine, and is perfect for mornings, afternoons, or anytime you need a wholesome boost. Whether you’re on a wellness journey, trying to manage weight, or simply love delicious, nutrient-packed drinks, this recipe is a simple yet powerful addition to your routine. Try it nuh!
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tbsp chia seed.
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder.
- 1 tsp coffee powder (instant).
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (or a sweetener of your choice).
- 1 ½ almond milk (I used unsweetened for this recipe).
INSTRUCTIONS
- Add the milk to a blender (preferably high speed).
- Add the remaining ingredients
- Blend until smooth.
- Add ice to a cup and pour the mixture.
- Serve and Enjoy!
Notes:
This is a wonderful drink you can either consume before breakfast or after, before lunch or just about any time of the day. However, if you are going to add coffee, then before 6 pm would be ideal. Also, you can use pitted dates as a sweetener (I did not have any available) or honey (you can decide based on what you have available). Hope you enjoy it!
A tip: You can soak the chia seeds for a few minutes, which will help to soften them and thus result in a smoother texture for the drink.

Ingredient Spotlight!
~ Maple Syrup~
Maple syrup is a syrup that is made from the sap of the maple tree. It is usually included in the list of healthier alternatives to regular table sugar. This is because it is said to have less sucrose and sugar while possessing a nice little nutritional profile such as manganese, riboflavin (Vitamin B2), copper and calcium.
While it is often used as the main syrup for pancakes, it can also be used to sweeten other dishes, especially smoothies and drinks.
To good health!
