Hot Chocolate – For Christmas and Beyond!

Nothing beats a nice cup of hot chocolate. It is easy to make, very nutritious and delicious. Plus, it can be a great addition to your Christmas festivities as you relax and enjoy the day with family and friends.  Chocolate is chocked full of nutrients and antioxidants.  This is another great way to get those nutrients. It is indeed a guilty pleasure! Try it nuh!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened).
  • 2 cups milk (Almond or one of your choice).
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon.
  • 1 tsp ground cloves (optional).
  • A pinch of salt.
  • 2 tsp Sweetener of your choice (Honey, maple syrup etc.). You can add more based on your desired taste.

DIRECTIONS

  • Add milk to pot on medium heat.
  • Bring to a boil or light simmer.
  • Add cocoa powder.
  • Remove from stove and whisk.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Add cinnamon powder.
  • Ground clove (optional).
  • Pinch of salt.
  • Add a sweetener of your choice.
  • Continue to whisk to ensure that all the cocoa powder is blended, and it starts to froth.
  • Serve, Relax and Enjoy!

Notes:

Hot chocolate can be made any time of the year. I have it regularly, especially at breakfast.  But, enjoying it during the holidays does enhance the Christmas vibes.  Remember, you can use any milk of your choice. I always use almonds, but if you also have coconut milk, you can combine them both, it gives it an even more enriched flavour.

~ Cocoa Powder~

Cocoa powder is made from roasted cocoa beans after the extraction of cocoa butter. It is rich in flavonoids, polyphenols, proteins and other antioxidants and nutrients.

Due to its antioxidants and nutrients, research purports that it may be able to reduce blood pressure, and improve cholesterol levels, as well as cardiovascular health.

Research also denotes that it may also help with cognitive function as well as skin health.
