Cold Cocoa and Chia Seed Drink

TABLE OF CONTENTS

I have been experimenting with ways to enjoy my cocoa and coffee over the past few months. While just a simple cocoa drink is both satiating and nutritious, adding chia seeds can take it to another level especially if you are on a wellness or weight loss journey. This drink is very simple to make, satiating and truly tastes divine.  You can enjoy this any time of the day, but I like having it in the mornings.  Try it nuh!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp chia seed.
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder.
  • 1 tsp coffee powder (instant).
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (or a sweetener of your choice).
  • 1 ½ almond milk (I used unsweetened for this recipe).

INSTRUCTIONS

    • Add the milk to a blender (preferably high speed).
    • Add the remaining ingredients
    • Blend until smooth.
    • Add ice to a cup and pour the mixture.
    • Serve and Enjoy!

Notes:

This is a wonderful drink you can either consume before breakfast or after, before lunch or just about any time of the day. However, if you are going to add coffee, then before 6 pm, would be ideal. Also, you can use pitted dates as a sweetener (I did not have any available) or honey (you can decide based on what you have available).  Hope you enjoy it!

A tip: You can soak the chia seed for a few minutes which will help to soften it and thus, result in a smoother texter for the drink.

Ingredient Spotlight!

~ Maple Syrup~

Maple syrup is a syrup that is made from the sap of the maple tree.  It is usually included in the list of healthier alternatives for regular table sugar. This is because it is said to have less sucrose and sugar while possessing a nice little nutritional profile such as manganese, riboflavin (Vitamin B2), copper and calcium.

While it is often used as the main syrup for pancakes, it can also be used to sweeten other dishes, especially smoothies and drinks.

To good health!
